Whole genome sequencing of fetus through fetal DNA in mother’s plasma

Jay Shendure’s lab at UW has done whole genome sequencing (SNV detection) of a fetus using the fetal DNA in the mother’s blood:

This has been coming, as other groups (including Steve Quake at Stanford) have been using fetal DNA in the maternal blood to test for trisomy and Quake even started a company (Artemis) developing tools to sequence fetal DNA from the mother’s blood.
